Saving face

Spring rains are hitting Washington pretty hard.

Today, near K Street, a negligible sight was a microcosm of the mores here.

A man made an awkward, and from where I sat, a nonsensical dance down the street in the pouring rain. He wore no raincoat nor held an umbrella and moved while leaning forward, hunched, but without hitching his sport coat up to shield his head.

Ironically, this made him a larger target for the raining falling from above — much more surface area to hit.

The only benefit I saw from this posture was that his face wasn’t getting wet, so maybe he didn’t have to immediately feel the reality of his situation.
